Dear Maurice,

I’m happy to hear that you’re having difficulty with QA.

Does that statement surprise (even anger) you?

What if I were to tell you that the reason for the trouble is to glorify God? And that He allowed this trial into your life to exalt His holy name and bring glory to Himself.

Well, ALL of the above is absolutely true!

And all above is completely Biblically sound.

We all have offended God - MANY TIMES!!! That's why He gives us His word to encourage us, "If we confess our sins to Him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9 (NKJV) I call this the Christian bar of soap. God is anxious to hear from us - no matter what we've done or how bad we think it is. It is the LIE from Satan to think what we've done is so bad God doesn't want to hear from us. He does! He was well aware of every sin before we were ever born! He placed every sin that you and I would ever commit on the Cross and His Son paid the penalty for them with His blood. What we have to do is accept His sacrifice on our behalf, ask for forgiveness, try not to commit the same sin again (if we do - we ask again until we overcome that area of our life with His help), and rejoice in His love for us!

God wants your trust. He also wants you to depend on Him, just as the Lord depended on Him while here on earth. I can’t imagine that the Lord Jesus felt compelled to break away from the disciples early in morning before any of them were awake and seek a solitary place to pray and commune with the Father. If Jesus needed this time in prayer and supplication, we must need it all the more.

So here are some points for you to consider. First, God is very interested in how you’re doing in your classes. The reason for these classes is to glorify Him, and the reason they glorify Him is because they are the means to the end! That’s right; you will bring glory to His name because your career is meant to be your missionary field. Your career will bring Him glory ----- IF, that is your goal! Not the prestige of position, not the money, not the glamour, NOT self, but selflessness!

Secondly, it’s all about HIM. What can I do to please Him? How can my actions glorify Him? How can I promote Jesus through my career? Lord, I’m yours, use me!

Maurice, if you turn your class time, study time and homework over to Him; he will direct your paths. (Proverbs 3:5-6) You will excel. And that will bring Him glory.

It doesn’t mean it won’t be difficult at times, because it will. Satan does not want you to succeed. Remember, our fight is against principalities and powers and not flesh and blood. Satan is going to discourage you, draw you away from the Word, try to convince you to give up and push you to burn yourself out so you will follow his advice, “You know you really don’t have the time to consult with the Lord in a quiet time of prayer and supplication.” Recognize it, and don’t fall for it.

Psalms 1:2-3 says, “[Maurice’s] delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law [Maurice] meditates day and night. [Maurice] shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever [Maurice] does shall prosper. This is God’s promise to you! Your season of fruit will be your career; and because of this your blessings will be beyond measure.

Of this I am certain: God knows QA!!! He promises to help you. You have the Holy Spirit residing intimately inside you. You have a Mediator standing by to assist you. You have God the Father that loves you and only wants the best for His child [Maurice]. And you have a myriad of promises to claim on your behalf. All you have to do is ask. That’s it. James 4:2 says, “You do not have because you do not ask.” So ask. Bring your requests before the Lord. I guarantee He wants to answer them. Psalms 37:4 says, “Delight yourself also in the LORD, and He shall give [Maurice] the desires of [Maurice’s] heart.”

Next, you must ask correctly. James 4:3 states, “You ask and you do not receive because you ask amiss.” There are those who would use the Lord like a genie in a bottle. They would call upon Him to fulfill their evil desires. Their intention is not to bring Him glory, but to gratify some longing in their life. All sin is thus: the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh and the pride of life; of these - reject. The fruit was beautiful, delicious and able to make you as wise as God, was the lie from the crafty serpent. And Eve fell headlong!

So what do I do, you ask? Seek the Lord. Abide in Him. That means to put your whole trust and faith in Him. Depend on Him. Rely on Him. Seek His counsel. Jesus said I am sending you a Helper and Counselor, the Holy Spirit (and He did). Next, let His Word abide in you. Seek to study it; to show yourself approved (2 Timothy 2:15). Let it saturate your every action and thought. Hold all things to its measure, by allowing the Word of God to be the standard by which they are judged. Trust its advice, seek its guidance, and refer trials to its direction. If you will do this, then John 15:7 will definitely apply to you, “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.”

Now you might be asking yourself how this answers my problem. This is how. The Lord will either direct you to the answer or direct the answer to you. I'm not sure of your entire situation, but Philippians 4:6-7 teaches us what to do in stressful situations. “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” We are instructed not to be anxious. This means NOT to be worried, fretful, or nervous about ANYTHING! This is His solution to anxiety: pray! Tell Him about it. Discuss it with Him. Supplication means to ask earnestly - plea or plead for the answer or solution. And then thank Him for the answer. Thank Him for ALL the answers to ALL the questions that He’s answered for you and going to answer for you. You mean thank Him BEFORE He answers? That’s EXACTLY what I mean. Remember, He’s promised to hear your prayers; to answer them; and to give you your heart’s desire. The answer is on its way. And, by the way, His timing is absolutely perfect! Now relax and enjoy the peace of God that surpasses ALL understanding.

I realize this is not easy. But the rewards are tremendous.

I will pray for His blessings, your strengthening, your wisdom and understanding (James 1:2-8): “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.”
